Cloud Security discussed at RSA Conference

"A recent survey showed that 51% of corporations said that security was the main concern about cloud computing." (citation)

Arthur Coviello, Executive vice president of EMC Corp., recently held a keynote at the RSA conference in San Fransisco. The RSA conference is where leaders in the IT industry come and discuss security issues that face the IT world today. And EMC Corp. is a company who focuses on innovating ways to store, protect, optimize, and leverage information. Coviello urged his peers to continue to innovate better ways of protecting client's information as computing starts to go virtual.

Today, there are many ways to keep your information secure. The traditional way is to house it on a machine locally. This adds peace of mind that only you have access to it, but adds a lot of problems with hard drive crashes, needing to backup constantly, and in some cases theft, flood and fire are all cause for concern. When information is sent to the cloud, these issues are no longer large concerns; but, peace of mind knowing that only you have access to the information decreases. This is where EMC Corp. is trying to help consumers.

Chuck Hollis of EMC talks in a video on their site about how the industry is starting to go away from the traditional way of computing and towards the cloud, but this makes people uneasy as they are use to seeing and touching the technology (video timecode 2:00). But, as time goes on and people start to use the cloud, faith in its security will increase.

Even with traditional computing models (having your computer in house) security has always been an issue and is continually being made better. The same goes for the cloud, and today it is secure. With HIPAA compliancy and advanced firewalls in place, all information is secure on the servers and can only be accessed by the person with the password. This is a service that eMerging Cloud offers. "Don’t know about the silver lining but the cloud will definitely help your bottom line." (citation)

At a recent panel discussion in Bangalore, many entrepreneurs got together to talk about the emerging market of Cloud Computing in today's IT market. Among those in attendance were Rajneesh from Microsoft and Abhishek from the internet titan, Google.

Cloud computing has been around for years, but is hitting the ground running in today's market, locally and globally. As seen in this international conference, business owners from all over the world are seeing the benefits of cloud computing and are getting on the band wagon. IT providers and developers are building hardware and software to help facilitate this new realm of computing. And like all advances in technology, we should be seeing more and more innovations come to market within the next few years, making this truly the next generation in home and office computing.

Now, why is this the case?

This is the case, primarily because of the overwhelming benefits of financial and productivity costs. For the basic home user, they use a fraction of the processing power that their computer allows. The same goes for the vast majority of businesses out there. But, you need that processing power for the few moments that you do something like startup a program, for instance. The rest of the time, your processor is sitting there waiting to be used. That is a waste of resources. So, what large companies have been doing for years is putting all those processing needs on a server and having all their employees use a terminal to access the server. That way dozens or even hundreds of people are using the same processor. This means the processor goes from being active with (for ease of explanation) 5% of its power to 80% of its power, and when a person needs that extra umph, there is the remaining 20% available. This is what cloud computing does.

With Cloud Computing, you get hundreds of people using the same multi-processors, thus spliting unused resources as well as the costs. Plus, each person now has the resources of a megaserver rather than a typical computer, speeding up their overall productivity on the computer.

Other benefits discussed at this conference include: (Click Here for the article)

- Resources are pooled and you use whatever you want and pay accordingly.
- Cloud computing gives a lot of scalability and elasticity
- Cloud computing can help businesses and end users get a much better experience.
- Cloud computing enables new business.

The Next Generation in Office Computing

Microsoft server president Bob Muglia is quoted saying Cloud Computing is "a next-generation way of doing computing" (Click Here)

Does this sound familiar? At eMerging Cloud we have been dedicated to offering our customers the Next Generation in Office Computing for nearly 2 years. With increase in productivity, many businesses are seeing the benefit to switching to the Virtual Environment. Companies like Google, Yahoo and now Microsoft are developing more programs and applications that can be accessed via a Virtual world. And at eMerging Cloud, we offer superior Virtual OS.

Now you can securely login to a server and what you see is a standard Windows XP Professional or Windows 7 Professional desktop. There is no need to learn a new software, or learn a new way of doing things. Everything is the same as before, only now it protected, backedup and available anywhere that you can log onto the internet.

There is no need to pay for other services, your security and backup software are included within our basic package. And at less than $2 a day, you are looking at a major financial savings over the traditional way of computing.

Keep tuned in to our blogs and Twitter to see the latest in online computing/cloud computing/virtual machines. Three different names, all the same thing. And we have your answers to this new technology.
